Martiny’s is an intimate, three-level Japanese cocktail bar located in New York City’s Gramercy neighborhood. Founded by renowned mixologist Takuma Watanabe, the bar offers a refined drinking experience that combines Japanese precision with classic cocktail traditions. Housed in a renovated 1800s carriage house, Martiny’s provides a serene escape from the city’s hustle, inviting guests to savor meticulously crafted beverages in an elegant setting.

History & Concept

After an eight-year tenure as head bartender at the iconic Angel’s Share, Takuma Watanabe ventured out to create his own establishment. Martiny’s, named after sculptor Philip Martiny, whose work adorns Washington Square Park, pays homage to both the art of sculpture and mixology. The bar embodies the Japanese philosophy of “shokunin,” emphasizing mastery and dedication to one’s craft, evident in every aspect of the guest experience.

Design & Atmosphere

Martiny’s interior exudes understated luxury, with each of its three floors offering a unique ambiance. The design incorporates elements reminiscent of Tokyo’s classic Ginza bars, featuring custom-made glassware, soft jazz melodies, and meticulous attention to detail. The atmosphere is both intimate and sophisticated, providing an ideal setting for enjoying expertly crafted cocktails.

Martiny’s Menu

The Martiny’s menu is a curated selection of innovative cocktails and refined small plates. Drawing inspiration from Golden Age classics, the menu is structured akin to an omakase experience, guiding guests through a journey of flavors and textures. Each item reflects a harmonious blend of traditional techniques and modern creativity.

Cocktail Menu

Signature cocktails at Martiny’s showcase the bar’s inventive approach:

  • Caprese. A clarified cocktail combining Starward Two-Fold whiskey, tomato water, grapefruit juice, basil, lime, and milk, offering a refreshing twist on the classic salad.
  • Tea Ceremony. An elegant blend of Nikka Coffey Grain whiskey, matcha, cacao, and coconut water, served in delicate Kimura glassware.
  • Grand Martiny. A luxurious mix of gin, sherry, port, cognac, and elderflower liqueur, exemplifying the bar’s commitment to elevated classics.

Food Menu

Complementing the cocktails, the food menu features thoughtfully crafted dishes:

The culinary offerings are designed to enhance the drinking experience, providing balanced flavors that pair seamlessly with the cocktails.
